ECP INVESTIGATOR TRAINING COURSE: Certificate Program Part Two
Wednesday, September 23 - Thursday, September 24,2020

Each of these courses is 2 days long. Enrollees can take both courses, or just one. The instructors are highly experienced members of the NAECP Board and they are donating their time. A certificate of completion will be provided upon close of selected course and completion of daily surveys. Registration fees go directly to support conference funding.


Program Objectives and Speaker Information


ECP BASICS COURSE: Certificate Program Part One
Monday, September 21st - Tuesday, September 22, 2020

Module 1: History of the ECP
Instructor: Billie Garde, Clifford & Garde, LLP
Learn and understand the history and evolution of Employee Concerns/Whistleblower Protection programs.

Module 2: Legal & Regulatory Principles 
Instructor: Paul Zaffuts, The Zaffuts Group
Learn and become familiar with applicable language for labor, privacy, and employment laws that may come into play when dealing with employee issues.

Module 3: ECP Functional Responsibilities 
Instructors: Brett McCreary, Independent ECP Consultant & Kristie Lowther, Senior Manager, ECP/NSC, Entergy 
Learn and understand the basic process steps and ECP scope, including the characteristics of an ECP professional. 

Module 4: ECP Data & Metrics
Instructors: Lori Hayes, Manager, Employee Culture Oversight, Duke Energy & Michelle Waller, ECP Manager, Callaway, Ameren Missouri
Learn and become familiar with typical ECP metric indicator characteristics, their analysis, and reporting, including tools to assess the SCWE and NSC, with an overview of internal ECP metrics. 


ECP INVESTIGATOR TRAINING COURSE: Certificate Program Part Two
Module 5: ECP Investigator

Wednesday, September 23rd - Thursday, September 24, 2020
Instructors: Paul Zaffuts, The Zaffuts Group and Tim Walsh, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP

Train on basic investigation skills using a “real life” approach. The class will work through a number of factual scenarios that encompass the types of concerns of particular interest to ECP investigators: retaliation, hostile work environment, chilling effect, and technical issues. The participants will use these scenarios to work through and learn about each step of an investigation, including intake interviews, screening, preparing concern statements and investigation plans, interviews, credibility determinations, assessing documents and physical evidence, analyzing the information, outlining the investigation report and developing ultimate findings. Each step will be introduced with a discussion of best practices, and each exercise will be followed by a daily survey.

Investigator Training Objectives

Understand the goals and process of an ECP investigation.

Understand ECP investigation best practices. 

Understand the elements forming the basis of typical ECP investigations (retaliation, hostile work environment, chilled work environment, and technical issues). 

Obtain basic skills for each step of an ECP investigation. 

Obtain basic skills for issue spotting and responding to unusual or sensitive circumstances.
