Retaliation in the Workplace:
Methods to Detect, Investigate and Prevent HIRD
Presented By: Billie P. Garde, Clifford & Garde LLP

Postponed - Reschedule Pending
Refunds Being Issued as of 3/17/20

Dear NAECP Members, Affiliates and Supporters,

After much deliberation and analysis, we have reached the conclusion that, unfortunately, we must postpone the 2020 Winter NAECP Training Session in Huntsville, Alabama scheduled on March 31-April 1, 2020. Additionally, we are postponing the Retaliation in the Workplace training scheduled April 2-3, 2020.

This is a very difficult decision and is made out of deep concern for everyone’s well-being. We seek to minimize risks of contagion associated with travel and large group gatherings, as well as to help mitigate the anxiety resulting from the unknowns surrounding COVID-19.

We appreciate your patience and understanding surrounding this decision, and as we work to set a new date for the event. There are many details involved in rescheduling, refunds have begun to be issued, and we will soon provide additional information in direct emails to our registered attendees offering a chance to leave your registration fees for future use..

Immediate Next Steps: At your earliest convenience, please contact the hotel at 256-428-2000 and airlines to cancel your reservations. The majority of airlines have already waived change fees for future re-booking.

Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and ask for your patience as we develop a new plan. We look forward to welcoming you to our rescheduled event.

NAECP President

Program Description
This course is designed to provide Employee Concern Program and Human Resource managers and professionals with tools to determine if retaliation is a factor in a specific employment dispute or within a work environment.  The course will begin with the outline of employee’s rights and responsibilities to express concerns that may impact the environment, public health and safety or other regulated work place issues.  The degree of time spent on the basics of employee rights and management’s legal responsibilities will depend on the level of experience of course participants.
Following basic employment law orientation, the course will focus on investigative techniques for responding to specific complaints of harassment, intimidation, retaliation or discrimination (HIRD) as well as assessments of work environments that are the subject of multiple HIRD issues. Attendees will develop investigative work plans designed to determine whether there is evidence of HIRD or the existence of a "chilling effect.”  The course will provide basic definitions and explanations in the employment law field as applied to specific case scenarios.  Actual cases will be utilized as training tools.
Completion of the course should prepare attendees to receive and respond to allegations of HIRD, develop an investigative plan, and collect necessary information to form conclusions and recommendations.
